Summer Sign-Off
It’s the last Friday in June and I’m about to start my summer vacation, so you know what that means. A respite (for all of us) from my weekly columns in July and August.
For those of you who have been following this column since I started writing it in January of 2013, you’ll know that I take most of my vacation time over the summer. Here in the Northeast, summer is particularly special. We truly have four seasons here, and the geography of the NY metropolitan area lends itself perfectly to enjoying the local beaches, perhaps our greatest natural resource. From the Jersey Shore to the coast of Long Island and up through New England, we are surrounded by some of the best beaches in the world, and summer was made to enjoy them.
My family and I live full-time in New York City, but the summer gives us the opportunity to leave the City behind for about 10 weeks and enjoy the East End of Long Island. And since I take as much time off as my schedule permits, writing this column gets put on hold until we are back home after Labor Day.
I truly enjoy writing this column on a weekly basis. I try and mix it up with a variety of current events, political commentary, business topics and what’s going on with the Weiner family. Since we have many clients whom I don’t know personally, the column gives the people who do business with us an insight into who I am and how we do things here at Marcum. About 4,000 people are reading pretty consistently. In any given week, 20 to 30 people take the time to give me their own “Thoughts of the Week” by responding with their feedback on what I’ve written. Fortunately much of it is positive, although I do get my fair share of negative fallout as well. Hearing from readers makes me feel that I know a lot more of you than I actually do, and I hope you feel the same.
So this is my sign-off until September 5. I hope all of you out there get to take some well-deserved time off and to enjoy the warm weather and your loved ones. Be safe and have a wonderful summer!
