About Reem

Reem Samra is a director in the Firm’s Assurance Services Group and has over 35 years of audit and accounting experience. Reem leverages a deep understanding of audit and accounting issues of concern to state and local government, nonprofit, healthcare, and higher education institutions, which she serves as a compliance advisor with extensive experience in single audits and uniform grant guidance.

Prior to joining Marcum, Reem acted as the national industry quality leader for the public sector within a “Big Four” firm. In this capacity, she was responsible for guiding the development of technical materials, managing national consultations, and providing training to practitioners nationwide. Reem was also entrusted with commenting on proposed accounting and auditing guidance affecting state and local government and compliance procedures. She has contributed, as a member, to several GASB expert committees, the AICPA Government Audit Quality Center Executive Committee, and on the AICPA state and local government expert panel. She also shares her wealth of knowledge by facilitating seminars on governmental, nonprofit accounting, and compliance topics.

Reem leads various initiatives for the retention and advancement of women in the industry and her mentorship has played a vital role supporting numerous female professionals on their journey to leadership positions.
