So far, so good. Parking lots are filled, malls are packed, and customers are finding waits at checkout lines. “We’re going to have a great retail weekend,” says Ron Friedman , head of retail for Marcum, an accounting and consulting firm. “Shopping right now is a tradition; people want to be out in the malls for Black Friday.” But what happens in Washington over the next couple of weeks will decide if retailers have a happy holiday, Friedman says. “If something isn’t done about the fiscal cliff we very well may not have a good Christmas. People will be worried about their jobs and spending.”
