About Karen

Karen Schuler is a partner in the Managed Services & Consulting Department under the Nonprofit & Social Sector Industry in the Firm’s Washington, DC office. She leads the Firm’s Nonprofit Search, Transition & Planning practice, a team that helps nonprofit organizations across the nation leverage leadership and strategy transitions to grow and sustain mission impact. She came to Marcum via the Firm’s merger with Raffa, P.C., one of the nation’s preeminent public accounting and business consulting firms, specializing in nonprofits.

Karen practice group is dedicated to helping nonprofits plan for and thrive through executive leadership transitions and pivots in organizational strategies with specialization in sustaining organizations led by founder, long-tenured, and/or transformational executives. With more than 30 years of experience working in and consulting for nonprofit organizations, Karen is passionate about making a difference in the sector and values the opportunity to advance best business practices in mission-driven organizations. Under her leadership, the practice has worked with over 1,000 nonprofit organizations across the US. With footprints from local to global, nonprofit clients include organizations impacting advocacy, behavioral health, community development, disabilities, environment, food banks, health care, housing, human services, and international development.

A frequent speaker at conferences across the country, Karen regularly facilitates seminars and trainings for nonprofit leaders and boards. She leads the Firm’s Next Steps Workshop, a planning seminar for nonprofit executives to help organizations ensure mission sustainability.
