As a young professional, some of my favorite events of the year are not the large and grandiose ones that pull out all the stops, but the simpler events that take advantage of Long Island and its picturesque surroundings and temperate weather. As an example, one of my favorite events of the past few years has been the Marcum Workplace Challenge, held every year in late July at Jones Beach. The Workplace Challenge includes a 5k run along the water at Jones Beach and is just a wonderful overall event. I thoroughly enjoy how it combines one of Long Island’s most beautiful locations with a great competitive event and an opportunity to bond with colleagues and even network with hundreds of people from other Long Island companies. Local businesses should be encouraged to hold more events like this that are not only fun but also incorporate the locations and resources that make Long Island the great place it is.
